RESERVE DU CHATEAU
This Reserve wine is only made in outstanding years. The 100% Sémillon grapes come from vines that are average age of 60 years old. These are sorted grape by grape to obtain a crop that is 100% botrytised, and thus very concentrated. The yield is about 8-10 hectolitres per hectare. Fermentation and ageing take place in new barrels in Château Lamothe's underground cellars for 24 months. This is a magnificent wine with a pale golden colour and tremendous aromatic complexity, with overtones of pear, candied apricot, honey, and cinnamon. It is a wine that definitely commands our respect, and is a great treat all on its own as an aperitif, or with foie gras and blue cheeses such as Roquefort. Ageing potential: up to 25/30 years, although it is enjoyable after 4 years.
